MS Boys Win Conference Championship

The Tallulah Falls Mens Middle School Basketball won the school's first ever conference championship last week by defeating Summit Charter School in the Championship game.  The TFS boys were led by a quartet of 8th grade Indians on their way to an undefeated (10-0) conference season and a 16-2 record for the season.  Matthew Weidner provided the post scoring and defense that led to the undefeated record.  Hayden Johnson was outstanding providing three point scoring as well as consistent ballhandling.  Reeves Cody provided scoring and defense that helped the team to a record-setting season and Ryland Pugh provided defense and rebounding.  Many others contributed to the best season in TFSMS history.  Congratulations to Coach Hamilton and the team.

Indians defeat Hebron 67-53

The TFS Indians went to Dacula to take on the 14-5 Hebron boys on Thursday due to possible severe weather on Friday.  The Indians jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back on the way to a 67-53 defeat of the 2nd place Lions.  The Indians played an excellent team game, sharing the ball throughout the game.  Sanson Navarrete had an all around great game garnering 6 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals to lead the team.  All Indians played well offensively led by Michael Van Hooser's 19 points and Josey Keene's 16 points.  Guards Michael Weidner and Denzel Green-Wright combined for 18 points and handled the ball well against Hebron's pressure defense.  Post players Zatrick Pearce and Thala Freeman had 8 points and several key rebounds in the win.  The Indians are now 11-8 after playing an extremely challenging schedule and are 7-2 in the Region.

Indians Host Staff Appreciation Night

The TFS Indian Basketball Players and Girls Basketball Players along with the Varsity Cheerleaders chose Tallulah Falls School staff members to honor at the Varsity Basketball game on January 12th against Lakeview Academy.  It was a great chance for these young people to say thank you to teachers, counselors, administrators, etc. who have been very influential in their lives.  Pictures from this night are n the school's facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Tallulah-Falls-School-College-Preparatory-Day-and-Boarding-School-171756169569601/

Indians Compete at Carrollton Christmas Tournament

The Indians travelled to Carrollton over the Holiday break to compete in the Carrollton Holiday Christmas Tournament.  The Indians opened the tourney by losing a hard fought contest to host Carrollton 68-47 in a game that was much closer than the final score indicates.  Josey Keene and Michael Van Hooser led the way with 19 points and 17 points respectively.  In the 2nd round game, TFS defeated AAAAA Banneker HS by a score of 60-49 led by a trio of double figure scorers Michael Van Hooser with 18, Michael Weidner with 14, and Josey Keene with 10.  The final night saw the short-handed Indians who were down to only 8 players face a tough AAAAAA opponent Hillgrove from Cobb County and keeping the game close for 3 quarters before succumbing by a score of 62-40.  The Indians were again led by Michael Van Hooser with 16 points and Michael Weidnerwith 10 points.

Indians Stand at 3-0 in Region 8 A

After the first 3 Region 8 A games the Tallulah Falls Varsity Team stands undefeated.  The Indians opened Region play at George Walton with a 50-43 victory led in scoring by Michael Van Hooser with 23 points.  Josey Keene's 11 rebounds and Denzel Green-Wright's 9 rebounds in his 1st game back from injury were key to the win.  The Indians followed that with a 2nd win against Athens Christian School.  by a score of 51-35.  The Indians played a great defensive game defeating ACS for the first time in 8 tries.  The Indians were led in scoring by Josey Keene with 15 points and Michael Van Hooser with 14 points and 8 rebounds.  Michael Weidner had a great game defensively with 6 steals.  TFS ran their Region winning streak to 3 games by defeating Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn by a score of 58 - 47.  The Indians again had 3 players in double figures led by Michael Van Hooser's 15 points and Zatrick Pearce's 12 points followed by Josey Keene's 11 points.

Indians Defeat AA Riverside Military Academy in 2 OT Thriller.

The Indians won a double Overtime thriller at Riverside Military Academy as Junior Michael Weidner hit a driving layup with less than 5 seconds on the clock for the game winning basket.  Several Indians fouled out during the contest which was hotly contested all throughout the game.  The final score of 51-49 was a complete team victory on the defensive end.  The Indians were led on the offensive end by a trio of double figure scorers in Josey Keene with 13 points and 10 rebounds, Michael Van Hooser with 12 points, and Michael Weidner with 12 points including the game winner.  Zatrick Pearce had 9 points to go with his 10 rebounds.

Varsity Has Winning Record at Break

The TFS Indians Varsity Boys have a winning record at the Christmas Break at 6 wins against 5 losses.  The boys are undefeated against class A schools and are 1 of only 3 teams undefeated in Region 8-A.  The Indians have a winning record in spite of a daunting pre-Region schedule that included teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, and all 6 classifications in the state.  After starting the season 0-3, the Indians have gone 6-2 with the 2 losses against Class AAAA Carrollton High School and against Clas AAAAAA Hillgrove High School.  During this 8 game span the Indians defeated a team from Class AA and a team from Class AAAAA.  The Indians may be one of a very few teams in the state who have played a team from each of the 6 classifications.

MS/JV Boys Start Season with big wins

On Friday night, the Middle School B Team and the Junior Varsity boys traveled to Woody Gap to tip off the 2015-2016 season.  The night started with a big win for the Middle School B Team boys over the middle school team from Woody Gap.  All players contributed to the victory.  The evening ended with the Junior Varsity boys jumping out to a huge lead in the first half before coasting to the win.  Once again, all of the players contributed to the victory led by the scoring of Eric Murnzi and the passing of Jake Carver.

Varsity Boys Win Scrimmage

The Boys Varsity continued their pre-season work with a scrimmage versus St. Joseph's Catholic High School out of Greeneville, SC.  The Indians got off to a great start to the season in the 1st quarter as they sprinted ahead to an early 19 - 3 lead in route to a convincing 55-41 victory.  All players on the team contributed in various ways.  The Indians were led in scoring by Josey Keene with 18 points, Michael Van Hooser with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Zatrick Pearce with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Michael Weidner led the team with 8 assists with only 2 turnovers.  Freshman Jake Carver saw significant time in his 1st Varsity game as did Sophomore Akin Akisanya.  Sanson Navarrete and Thala Freeman also had solid games for the Indians.  TFS's next game will Be Saturday night against Riverside Military as we encourage the fans to wear Red, White, and Blue to honor our Veterans.

Indian Hoopsters Tip-Off Season

The Tallulah Falls much anticipated tip-off to basketball season is upon us.  The Indians scrimmage a great St. Joseph's Catholic School (out of Greeneville, South Carolina) following the Girls Varsity game on Tursday night.  The regular season also gets under way this week at home on Saturday as the Indians take on a strong Riverside Military Academy team from Gainesville, Georgia.  The TRIBE student section needs to be in full force on Saturday in all white as the theme for the night is WHITEOUT.  The best whiteout costume will win a prize.

TFS Middle School Boys Beat Rabun County Twice

The Tallulah Falls Middle School Team began the season with a bang this week as they defeated a solid Rabun County Middle School team twice.  The first game was a come from behind victory as the Indians won 66-64 in Overtime led by Matthew Weidner's 32 points.  The second was also a win for the Indians by a score of 70-69.  Hayden Johnson had a big game hitting on 5 three pointers and making several key baskets down the stretch.  Reeves Cody got a steal and dribbled the time out to seal the victory.  Congratulations on a great start to the season.

Midnight Madness - a GREAT Tip-off to Basketball Season

A GREAT night was had by all as TFS Basketbal hosted the 2nd Annual TFS Midnight Madness on Friday, October 30th, 2015.  A large group double the size of last year were in attendance as the TFS Boys Varsity Basketball Team was introduced to the student body and a large group of parents and teachers.  Students joined in the festivities as all fall sports teams were recognized, students competed in a skills challenge against the school administrators, and 1 student attempted a half court shot for $200 but the highlight of the evening was the Boys Varsity Practice.

The TFS Varsity Indian Boys Basketball Team has been selected by the coaching staff.  The lone Senior on this year's team is Denzel Green-Wright from New York.  Newcomers Sanson Navarrete (Junior), Akin Akisanya (Sophomore), and Jake Carver (Freshman) join returning Junior players Michael Weidner, Zatrick Pearce, Josey Keene, Michael Van Hooser, and Thala Freeman.  The Coaching staff was pleased with the large number of players trying out for the team this season and are excited about the prospects for an outstanding season.  The Junior Varsity and Middle School Teams were also selected and are posted on the Roster page.

Basketball Tryouts Announced

Boys Basketball tryouts dates have been announced.  Middle School tryouts for all boys in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades who are interested in trying out for the boys team need to have a concussion form on file with Coach Hamilton, a current physical, and be in good academic standing in classes.  Tryouts will be in the gymnasium after school beginning on Monday, October 5th.  Varsity and Junior Varsity tryouts will begin on October 26th.  Boys interested in trying out for any of these teams are encouraged to talk with Coach Hamilton, Coach Heyl, or Coach Van Hooser if they have any questions.

Three TFS Basketball Players Excel at Summer Camp

A trip to Orlando, Florida was more than just a summer vacation for three Tallulah Falls School junior varsity boys basketball players.

Michael Van Hooser of Demorest was joined by Clarkesville natives Sanson Navarette and Josey Keene at the Five Star Basketball Camp. The camp is one of the most respected summer camps for potential college prospects. The TFS players competed against other players from across the country and international players from as far away as China and Canada.

All three TFS players made the ten member All-Star Team out of over 70 players in attendance.  Josey Keene earned the camp’s Best Defensive Player honors. 

Men's Basketball Racks up Wins at MTSU Team Camp

The TFS Men's Basketball team recently returned from a successful week at Middle Tennessee State University's Team Camp.  The team completed the week with a record of 9 wins against 3 losses and beat teams from Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama.  The team played well all week competing against some of the best teams from those four states including a close loss to Region 6AAAAAA sweet sixteen team McEachern.  Returning Varsity players Michael Weidner, Josey Keene, Michael Van Hooser, Thala Freeman, Zatrick Pearce, and Denzel Green-Wright along with newcomers Sanson Navarette and 8th grader Matthew Weidner all competed at a very high level.  The team learned some valuable lessons including how to play together against talented teams and how to play together as a team.  Playing with only 8 players against bigger teams with as many as 15 players, the team refused to lose and continue to pile up wins to finish the summer season with a 14-6 record.

TFS Completes Summer League with a 5-3 Record

The Tallulah Falls returning Varsity Basketball Players recently competed in the North Georgia Summer League held at Banks County High School and Jefferson High School.  The TFS team more than held its own by defeating five teams in a higher classification, several in convincing fashion.  The team defeated 4A Stephens County, 3A playoff team Jefferson, 3A Oconee County, 4A Chestatee, and 5A Winder by double digit margins while losing three close contests to 3A playoff team Hart County, 3A playoff team Banks County and 5A sweet sixteen team Apalachee.  The purpose of the league is for players to have the opportunity to play competitive games with officials and get a chance to play together in a team setting.  Returning players Michael Van Hooser and Josey Keene led the team in scoring while returning guards Michael Weidner and Denzel Green-Wright along with transfer Sanson Navarette had great weeks both scoring and defensively.  Thala Freeman and Zatrick Pearce along with 8th grader Matthew Weidner had great weeks in the post especially rebounding and defensively.  The games were a great bonding experience for the team as they were able to play together as a team against some larger schools from around the area.

TFS Hosts Kids Fundamentals Camp

June 1st

The Tallulah Falls Mens and Womens Basketball Coaching Staffs along with Varsity Basketball Players held the Annual Tallulah Falls Kids Basketball Camp for any kids in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade.  Coaches and players learned a variety of fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and other fundamenrtal skills.  Instruction was provided by Varsity team members Josey Keene, Sanson Navarette, Michael Weidner, Zatrick Pearce, Thala Freeman, and Michael Van Hooser as well as Coaches Van Hooser and Hamilton.  All 35 camp participants had a great time learning fundamental skills and competing in relays and contests.  Each team member was provided a camp tee shirt and campers of the day were provided a basketball to take home and practice.  As one camper enthusiastically said as they were leaving "I can't wait for next summer so I can come back to camp!"

Two Indians Named to All Region Team

Congratulations to Sophomores Josey Keene and Michael Van Hooser for being named Honorable Mention All Region 8A.  This is a tremendous honor to be named to the Region 8A team as a sophomore.  Region 8A is one of the tougher Regions in the state with 4 teams in the top 16 of the state's Power Rankings system including Athens Christian School (27-0) who was number 1 most of the season.  Both players led the team in various categories throughout the 2014-2015 season.  Both averaged double figures in points per game and are on track to be very high on the school career scoring list at Tallulah Falls by the time they graduate.  Click below to see Season statistics for 2014-2015.

Middle School Boys win Tri-State Sportsmanship Award

Coach Neal just announced that Tallulah Falls School received the 2014-15 Tri State Middle School Conference Sportsmanship Award in Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball.    

 

Coach Neal states "We are grateful for the honor voted on by our peer basketball coaches and appreciate the manner in which Coaches Morris and Hamilton lead our girls and boys basketball teams and the sincerity of our players in their quest to play with character.  Our desire remains to compete at the highest level while highlighting integrity, respect for the game, and positive interscholastic relationships. 

 

Mr. Peevy is #1 Indian Supporter

Mr. Peevy, Head of School at Tallulah Falls School, is seen receiving the first of The TRIBE Student Fan Group shirts.  Mr. Peevy was given the shirt by seniors Eli Keene and Harley Turner with other Indian Varsity and Middle School basketball players in atendance while Coach Van explains the slogan and meaning of the TRIBE.  The shirt provided by McDonald's of Cornelia and Clarkesville has the Indian Mens basketball slogan, "All Out, All Game, All Season", on the back and The TRIBE on the front.  The slogan is for the mens basketball program which includes our student and family fans.  We expect our players to go all out every game and we need our fans to go all out in cheering for us.  We expect our players to carry that effort all season and we need our fans to as well.  The TRIBE is written on the front and these are shirts for our loyal followers.  We want the TRIBE to be at all of our games helping us to win.  These shirts will be on sale before basketball season on a fist come basis.  Mr. Peevy as leader of the TRIBE will be at games wearing his shirt and supporting the Indians.
